The Dragons did not read the memo that their season would dissipate to a painful conclusion against the state's top ranked squad. Not only did Cornwall put up a fight led by sophomore quarterback , the Section IX champions also surged to the lead late in the third quarter.

Queensbury did not crumble under the adversity. Once again, the Spartans flourished when things got tough, securing their first trip to a state final in 15 years with a pulse pounding 36 27 victory over Cornwall.

Queensbury took the lead, watched the Dragons pull within a point before the Spartans stopped a go ahead, two point conversion attempt.

Then, needing to get a couple of first downs, Queensbury did even better when broke off a 46 yard touchdown run with 1:39 remaining. The ensuing two point conversion run locked up the victory.

"Let's win it and have your team be the ones they compare to instead of those other 'Dome' teams," Irion said.
